An irresistible treat, the Big Island's finest! The ripe Hawaiian mac nut falls from the tree, protected by a green rind. The hard brown inner shell is cracked open to yield a nut loaded with rich flavor and good nutrition. The Aborigines of Australia knew and enjoyed it as "Kindal Kindal". In the 1890s the first commercial varieties were grown and named for John Macadam MD of Victoria. Some of those trees still bear good crops of nuts today. Only two out of the ten known species of macadamia trees bear edible nuts.
